I’m Melissa Kai -

photojournalist, anthropologist

Beyond aesthetics; as a photojournalist and anthropologist, I document music culture and “alt society” lifestyle - the raw spaces where sound, identity, and community collide. From underground venues to festival stages, I focus on rock and alternative scenes that shape how people connect and express themselves.

There is power in visual storytelling. It captures energy, emotion, and lived experience in a way nothing else can. Music is more than sound - it’s culture, resistance, and belonging.

Through my work, I document not just performances, but the people and moments that define these scenes—the artists, the crowds, and everything in between.

This is Visual Storytelling.
